Pamela Meyer: How to spot a liar

1. Lying is a cooperative act
- A lie has no power by its mere utterance, its power emerges when someone else agrees to believe the lie.
- You get lied to because you agreed to get lied to
- Strangers lie three times between the first 10 minutes of meeting

2. We are against lying ...and covertly for it
- The more intelligent the species, the larger the neo-cortex, the more likely it is to be deceptive
- Babies will fake a cry, 1 year old learns concealment, 2 yr olds bluff, 5 yr olds lie outright and manipulate through flattery, 9 yr olds master of the cover up, by the time you get to college you'll lie 1 out of 5 interaction to your mom, a deception epidemic
- Post truth society

Liespotting

1. Verbal Dodging
2. Body Language Slips

Our world is transparent, with blogs and social networks people made a choice to live lives that are public.

Over-sharing is not honesty, our manic texting and tweeting can blind us to a fact that the subtleties of humanity decency, character, integrity is still that matters, is always going to matter.
