Solar Power in the Philippines

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP). Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaics convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

In this YouTube Video the speaker suggests of a south orientation of solar panels when installing it in the Philippines, in which, the Sun moves from East to West in the southern side. The degree of inclination of the panels should be 15 degrees plus our latitude location from the equator.

Davao is 7 degrees latitude plus 15 degrees = 22 degrees
Cebu is 10 degrees latitude plus 15 degrees= 25 degrees
Manila is 14 degrees latitude plus 15 degrees= 29 degrees
Pagudpud is 18 degrees latitude plus 15 degrees= 33 degrees

Last June 2011 episode of ANC Headstart: Making the Philippines a Solar Energy Hub.
