Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, built by Ferrovial and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. It is built alongside the Nervion River, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Atlantic Coast. The Guggenheim is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The museum features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists.

Definitely in my "Places to go to" list. I can't wait to start my Euro tour. Recently I've been pondering on the future, I have seen myself being architect in the level that of Frank Gehry, Norman Foster or I.M. Pei. I would be someone who will bring significant cultural impact to the world!

La vocazione di San Matteo

The Calling of Saint Matthew is a masterpiece by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, depicting the Calling of Matthew. It was completed in 1599-1600 for the Contarelli Chapel in the church of the French congregation, San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. Over a decade before, Cardinal Matteu Contreil (in Italian, Matteo Contarelli) had left funds and specific instructions for the decoration of a chapel based on themes of his namesake. Decoration of the dome was started with frescoes by the late Mannerist artist, and one of the most popular painters in Rome at the time, Cavalier D'Arpino, Caravaggio's former employer. But with the elder painter busy with royal and papal patronage, Cardinal Francesco Del Monte, Caravaggio's patron and also the prefect of the Fabbrica of St Peter's (the Vatican office for Church property), intervened to obtain for Caravaggio his first major church commission and first painting with more than a handful of figures.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (29 September 1571 – 18 July 1610) was an Italian artist active in Rome, Naples, Malta, and Sicily between 1593 and 1610. His paintings, which combine a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, had a formative influence on the Baroque school of painting.

Caravaggio trained as a painter in Milan under a master who had himself trained under Titian. In his early twenties Caravaggio moved to Rome where, during the late 16th and early 17th centuries, many huge new churches and palazzi were being built and paintings were needed to fill them. During the Counter-Reformation the Roman Catholic Church searched for religious art with which to counter the threat of Protestantism, and for this task the artificial conventions of Mannerism, which had ruled art for almost a century, no longer seemed adequate. Caravaggio's novelty was a radical naturalism that combined close physical observation with a dramatic, even theatrical, use of chiaroscuro. This came to be known as Tenebrism, the shift from light to dark with little intermediate value. He burst upon the Rome art scene in 1600 with the success of his first public commissions, the Martyrdom of Saint Matthew and Calling of Saint Matthew.

Oscar Lopez (born 1954 in Santiago, Chile) is a Chilean-Canadian folk and nouveau flamenco guitarist. He has won many awards from the Latino community.

Lopez moved to Canada in 1979 and settled in Calgary, Alberta. He began pursuing music as a career, becoming a popular draw on the Canadian folk festival circuit, and released his debut album, Hola, in 1989. Several of his albums have been nominated for Canada's Juno Awards, and 2000's Armando's Fire was his first Juno win, for Best Instrumental Album. He has recorded on the Narada label. He was also named instrumentalist of the year by the Prairie Music Awards. Classical Soul broke the Latin Charts during the first few weeks.

Although he has continued recording, Lopez had not toured or performed in several years due to a battle with depression. As a result, Spirit of the West recorded a tribute song to Lopez, "Come Back Oscar", on their 2004 album Star Trails. On July 24, Lopez appeared on stage with Spirit of the West at the Calgary Folk Music Festival to perform the song.

In 1997 Lopez began playing with James Keelaghan in a group known as The Compadres. In 1998, he co-produced the album, "Volcán: Tributo a José José", a tribute album dedicated to the iconic Mexican singer Jose Jose. They recorded a self-titled album that year and toured Australia in 2005. In 2007 they recorded another album, ¿Buddy Where You Been? and toured various venues including Hugh's Room in Toronto where they appeared on October 16.

Ricardo Montaner- Besame la boca

Bésame la boca
con tu lágrima de risa
bésame la luna
tapa el sol con el pulgar
bésame el espacio
entre mi cuerpo y tu silueta
y al mar más profundo
bésale con tu humedad.
Bésame el susurro
que me hiciste en el oído
besa el recorrido
de mis manos a tu altar
con agua bendita de tu fuente
bésame toda la frente
que me bautiza y me bendice
esa manera de besar.
Besa mis campos y mis flores
con tus gotitas de colores
besa la lluvia
que resbala en la ventana
besa mi vida y mis cenizas
y me dirás que voy de prisa
bésame y deja con un grito
que lo logre.
Besa el torrente de ilusiones
bésame todas las pasiones
besa mi río hasta su desembocadura
besa mi vida y mis cenizas
y me dirás que voy de prisa
besa mis días y mis noches,
mis diluvios y mi cielo a pleno sol.
Bésame los ojos
aún dormido en la mañana
bésame la piel
con el caudal de tu estrechez
con agua bendita de tu fuente
bésame toda la frente
que me bautiza y me bendice
esa manera de besar.
Besa mis campos y mis flores
con tus gotitas de colores
besa la lluvia
que resbala en la ventana
besa mi vida y mis cenizas
y me dirás que voy de prisa
bésame y deja con un grito
que lo logre.
Besa el torrente de ilusiones
bésame todas las pasiones
besa mi río hasta su desembocadura
besa mi vida y mis cenizas
y me dirás que voy de prisa
besa mis días y mis noches,
mis diluvios y mi cielo a pleno sol.

Don Juan

Don Juan in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni, a painting by German painter Max Slevogt
Don Juan is a legendary, fictional libertine whose story has been told many times by many authors. El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra (The Trickster of Seville and the Stone Guest) by Tirso de Molina is a play set in the fourteenth century that was published in Spain around 1630. Evidence suggests it is the first written version of the Don Juan legend.

I passed my Spanish beginners' course but to no avail of understanding the play above. Hablo un poco español, pero el vídeo de arriba, no entiendo!

Tirso de Molina (October 1571 - March 12, 1648) was a Spanish Baroque dramatist, poet and a Roman Catholic monk.

Originally Gabriel Téllez, he was born in Madrid. He studied at Alcalá de Henares, joined the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy on November 4, 1600, and entered the Monastery of San Antolín at Guadalajara, Spain on January 21, 1601. He was ordained a priest by 1610.

This fucker is a priest! Yet he created a legendary rake, isn't that ironic?

Il David di Gian Lorenzo Bernini

David is a life-size marble sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The sculpture was part of a commission to decorate the villa of Bernini's patron Cardinal Scipione Borghese – the Galleria Borghese – where it still resides. It was completed in the course of seven months from 1623 to 1624.

This is one my favorite sculptures. These Italians are just so fucking gifted!

Comparing the Davids of Donatello (c. 1430-1440), Verrocchio (1476), Michelangelo (1504), and Antonin Mercié (1873). Personally I find the Bernini as the most sophisticated. At the first glance I can see the movement, the richness of its emotions, and its life. Scultura eccellente!

Gian Lorenzo Bernini (also spelled Gianlorenzo or Giovanni Lorenzo) (Naples, 7 December 1598 – Rome, 28 November 1680) was an Italian artist who worked principally in Rome. He was the leading sculptor of his age and also a prominent architect. In addition he painted, wrote plays, and designed metalwork and stage sets.

A student of Classical sculpture, Bernini possessed the unique ability to capture, in marble, the essence of a narrative moment with a dramatic naturalistic realism which was almost shocking. This ensured that he effectively became the successor of Michelangelo.

The Fratman

I have started to write an action-adventure novel about the challenges of a college student who joined Alpha Phi Omega which he had discovered the complexities of fraternity life. From rowdy frat parties, college sexual exploits, pledge hazing to violent frat rumbles, this novel will entertain the reader from start to finish.

Sneak peak preview of the novel will be released in a few weeks.

Disclaimer:
The setting is within Metro Manila, the schools University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and other schools mentioned are real. The organizations Alpha Phi Omega, Tau Gamma Phi, Freemasons, Sigma Rho, Delta Lambda Sigma, Alpha Phi Beta and other organizations mentioned are also real. However, any part of the novel that depicts factual names and events are merely circumstantial.

Schlong Weekend!

Friday night, me and my boys hit the local strip joint. This was a cheap-ass place, equivalent to what we have in Cubao back in the metro. I was just watching the dance routines and drinking pale pilsen to fit the mid-forties to late-fifties crowd.

They got a huge ass stage with even bigger ass bitches dancing all over it. This is what we get for having a limited night-out budget. But when Katy Perry's Teenage Dream started to fill the air waves, out comes a dancer, eighteen-ish, with porcelain white skin, kita-pusod-spaghetti-strapped top, and an unbuttoned pek-pek shorts! The second and third song titles turned to oblivion as her top and shorts were dismissed respectively.

After the tease, I can't help but notice that 3 of my 4 friends are looking at their wallets. I avoided to state the obvious. Nonetheless, the night ended with all of us agreeing not ever to talk about this particular event. But of course, we all lied.

Tony Montana's Mansion

The house where the 1983 film "Scarface" was filmed has now been put on sale for a $35 million. Directed by Brian DePalma, the film chronicles the rise and fall of Cuban refugee, Tony Montana (Al Pacino), and his descent into the dark depths of the drug wars in Miami.

Even though the movie was set in Miami, the house that was used for the shoot is actually located in Santa Barbara, California. Here are some of the details of the house: 5 bedroom, 8 bath, two story, Mediterranean, fireplaces, heated swimming pools, hot tubs, guest house and patio. And all that on over 10 acres of property overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa (also known as La Gioconda or La Joconde, or Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo) is a portrait by the Florentine artist Leonardo da Vinci. It is a painting in oil on a poplar panel, completed circa 1503-1519. It is on permanent display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

The Last Supper

The Last Supper (Italian: Il Cenacolo or L'Ultima Cena) is a 15th century mural painting in Milan created by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Duke Ludovico Sforza and his duchess Beatrice d'Este. It represents the scene of The Last Supper from the final days of Jesus as it is told in the Gospel of John 13:21, when Jesus announces that one of his Twelve Apostles would betray him. It is located at Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan.

The Lady with an Ermine

A painting by Leonardo da Vinci, from around 1489–1490. The subject of the portrait is identified as Cecilia Gallerani, and was probably painted at a time when she was the mistress of Lodovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, and Leonardo was in the service of the Duke.

Eraserheads - Ang Huling El Bimbo

Kamukha mo si Paraluman
No’ng tayo ay bata pa
At ang galing-galing mong sumayaw
Mapa-Boogie man o Chacha

Ngunit ang paborito
Ay pagsayaw mo ng El Bimbo
Nakakaindak, nakakaaliw
Nakakatindig balahibo

REFRAIN 1
Pagkagaling sa ‘skwela ay didiretso na sa inyo
At buong maghapon ay tinuturuan mo ako

CHORUS
Magkahawak ang ating kamay at walang kamalay-malay
Na tinuruan mo ang puso ko na umibig na tunay

Naninigas aking katawan
‘Pag umikot na ang plaka
Patay sa kembot ng bewang mo
At pungay ng ‘yong mga mata

Lumiliwanag ang buhay
Habang tayo’y magkaakbay
At dahan-dahang dumudulas
Ang kamay ko sa makinis mong braso, hooh

REFRAIN 2
Sana noon pa man ay sinabi na sa iyo, hoh
Kahit hindi na uso ay ito lang ang alam ko

[Repeat CHORUS]

La la la la, la la, la la, la la la

Lumipas ang maraming taon
‘Di na tayo nagkita
Balita ko’y may anak ka na
Ngunit walang asawa

Tagahugas ka raw
Ng pinggan sa may Ermita
At isang gabi’y nasagasaan
Sa isang madilim na eskinita, hah

REFRAIN 3
Lahat ng pangarap ko’y bigla lang natunaw
Sa panaginip na lang pala kita maisasayaw

[Repeat CHORUS twice]

CODA
La la la la, la la, la la, la la la [2x]

Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time... on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time... on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one
