Daily Prayer

The sun arises, and a new ray of hope fills my heart
Attitude of Gratitude as I awake, before the day starts!
The air I breathe, water I drink, and bread I break
Divine Providence, all these I received and take

Thankful to family and friends, who joins this journey
Appreciating my gifts and talents, to share my trophy
Couldn't have succeeded without help and follow through
I humbly bow my head, for all these graces I truly value

Attention, affection, and appreciation for my loved ones
For treasures of love is greater than an empty mansion
Still, the life of luxury and wealth I will provide for my family
But on my honor, I swear to practice works of charity

Commitment and execution of my plans to survive
Do, do, and do! Actions, hard work and the strive!
Small duties done extraordinarily can never be priced
For my own reasons and my passion would have it suffice

Take time to laugh, and don't hold back a smile
Listen, converse, make my presence worthwhile
Learn, paint, sing or write, making myself a daily habit
But also spare a few moments for peace and quiet...

Meditation to practice the mind and purify the soul
Effective thoughts, subconsciously, I am in control
As the day goes by, review all accomplishments
Congratulate thy self, the better, the frequent

This day has witness a part of a glorious history
For my purpose in this world will add to its beauty
Certain that all will fall in place, my hopes and dreams
And all along years may pass, and a lifetime as it seems

Well, I made this life one day at a time, with this prayer
To the Lord, I dedicate this day and until my last breathe, faithful forever...

USC-SGS Basketball Supremacy

During the 90's in the Visayas Region the Milo sponsored league Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP), had seen a basketball team composed of 8 to 11 year old kids like no other as it set winning and championship records. The University of San Carlos - South Grade School made its mark in history led by Coach Benedicto Mendoza.

The photo above is the '96 team who captured both local and the regional crown without occurring any losses. However, fall off short in the Final Four National Finals held in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Standing from left to right on the last row is legendary coach Benedicto Mendoza, Enrico Lllanto, Zachary Esyoesta, Nino Ramirez, Pierce del Rosario. On the second row: Vinci Demicillo, Shane Flores, Jeffrey Pada, Neil Capagngan, Chris Pocong, Jude Noel, Jared Somosot, Asst. Coach. Satunino Mayormita. The youngest members of the team seated from left to right we have: Benedict Macaraya, Adrian Madrigal, Paul Ricana, and yours truly.

The '96 team was really a powerhouse! The centers are gigantic for their age level that can towers the offensive strategy, combined with seasoned point guards that has superb ball handling and passing skills, role players that plays exceptional defense, and the prospects, I included, were keen observers and hard workers that are to be the future movers of the franchise.

The administration had been very supportive to the program giving out several jerseys and jackets that seemed to be priceless to us kids then. Games were played on the weekends and after every win, the next school day during the flag ceremony, each of us will be called up to be congratulated and recognized. Cliche as it is, we became campus celebrities. The achievements we had were very much appreciated by the whole Carolinian community, from the reverent fathers, the faculty, and out schoolmates.

I believe that we were deserving to all the glory bestowed upon us. Let me take you back during those times from the try-outs to the emotional championship games.

It was a very good experience for kids to have this kind of exposure. Many of the qualities I brought with me as I went through life were mold during those times when basketball meant "life", literally.

To be continued...

Behavioral Finance

The Role of Psychology

Behavioral Finance is a relatively recent revolution in finance that applies insights from all of the social sciences to finance. New decision-making models incorporate psychology and sociology, among other disciplines, to explain economic and financial phenomenon, such as erratic stock price variations. Psychological patterns such as overconfidence and perceived kinks in the value function seem to impact financial decision-making, but are not included in classical theories such as the Expected Utility Theory. Kahneman and Tversky's Prospect Theory addresses such issues and sheds light on irrational deviations from traditional decision-making models.

Carmina Burana: O Fortuna

Carmina Burana: O Fortuna
Composed by Carl Orff in the 1930's, it reminds me of my burning condo unit at Espana Towers. Orff may have went to hell and back to get this tune :))

O Fortuna (O Fortune)
velut luna (like the moon)
statu variabilis (you are changeable)
semper crescis (ever waxing)
aut decrescis; (and waning;)
vita detestabilis (hateful life)
nunc obdurat (first oppresses)
et tunc curat (and then soothes)
ludo mentis aciem, (as fancy takes it)
egestatem, (poverty)
potestatem (and power)
dissolvit ut glaciem. (it melts them like ice.)

Sors immanis (Fate - monstrous)
et inanis, (and empty)
rota tu volubilis, (you whirling wheel)
status malus, (you are malevolent)
vana salus (well-being is vain)
semper dissolubilis, (and always fades to nothing)
obumbrata (shadowed)
et velata (and veiled)
michi quoque niteris; (you plague me too;)
nunc per ludum (now through the game)
dorsum nudum (I bring my bare back)
fero tui sceleris. (to your villainy.)

Sors salutis (Fate is against me)
et virtutis (in health)
michi nunc contraria, (and virtue)
est affectus (driven on)
et defectus (and weighted down)
semper in angaria. (always enslaved.)
Hac in hora (So at this hour)
sine mora (without delay)
corde pulsum tangite; (pluck the vibrating strings;)
quod per sortem (since Fate)
sternit fortem, (strikes down the string)
mecum omnes plangite! (everyone weep with me!)

Welcome to the world kid. This is my best friend's first-born. I was the best man at his wedding. Too bad wasn't able to join them today.

Look at the size of those balls! :))

The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas is a must-read. A classical tale of vengeance. Originally written in French, Le Compte de Monte-Cristo completed in 1844.

I love French, french cuisine, french language, french fries, french kiss, et cetera. Portraying French nobility in the 18th century.

It reminds me of Rizal's Noli Me Tangere and its sequel El Filibusterismo. Edmond Dantes equals to Crisostomo Ibarra and the Count of Monte Cristo is to Simoun.

The Hard Times Of RJ Berger

I have been looking for a sitcom for quite sometime now since How I met your mother's season has ended and Two and a half men as well. Also both are not available for watch instantly on Netflix.

Low and behold!

Meditation Music

This is my Meditation Music, I think I have been using this since 2010. But I must meditate on a daily basis from now on.
