User Review: NOKIA ASHA 305

December 18, 2012
Cebu City, Philippines

Matching a phone and a person always start with user characteristics. Personally, I am a very rugged when it comes to items in general, this means the lifespan of things in my possession does not last very long. Knowing that through harsh experiences, I no longer buy items that are the top brands and make durability or long-lasting a high selling point.

I accidentally dropped my phone busting the LCD display. Thus, I needed a phone that would meets my current needs, fast.
1. On a Globe Postpaid Plan with Unlimited Calls & Text for Globe and Unlimited Internet Surfing.
2. Have an 8GB micro SD for media purposes
3. Medium-Heavy mobile internet user
4. Dual-sim
5. Bugdet conscious

I was contemplating on buying an Android Phone by local manufacturers like Cherry Mobile or from MyPhone. My budget was P 5,000. I did my research and look-up specifications and reviews.

However, in the local mall, I compulsive bought a NOKIA ASHA 305 for P 3,990. Relying heavily on the familiarity of brand, and price achieving my minimum requirements being a dual-sim smartphone.

So after a day of using it. I came up with this.

User Review of NOKIA ASHA 305

It is user-friendly, very easy to figure out, dual-sim advantage and the touchscreen function is satisfactory.

There is no 3G and wifi connectivity if you heavily use mobile internet, altough, the Globe Unli Surf Plan that I'm using works alright. YouTube not supported if on dual-sim, facebook is better on the browser than the app.

It doesn't have a flash and taking pictures may take a bit longer to process. Video capturing is also very dragging.

If only the camera functions are a little bit better, the retail price of P3,990, it could have been a great bargain.

On Prayer

Back in pre-school, I beheaded a ninja turtle while playing with it. Scared of the teacher's punishment, I broke her strict rule that all toys should be returned after playing but instead I smuggled it home and tried to fix it to no avail. In my final act of desperation I prayed so hard to God to fix it, but the next day I cried my heart out because it was still broken.

I felt that God abandoned me.

Still crying in school my teacher comforted me and gave me a new ninja turtle to play with for she saw that I had a headless toy.

If God answered what I prayed for and mystically put back on Leonardo's head, I would have been punished for not returning the toy or I might have been accused of stealing.

Also, it is our human tendency to pray to God when we exhausted all our options, while we could have avoided all the troubles we made if we just went to Him first.

I realized the power of prayer very young as a child, when my faith was at its greatest because I have nothing but to depend on God. As the years went by and the prayerful child in me was lost along the way.

When things started to go wrong, I worked hard to make it right only to do more damage. I have failed to see that prayer is essential in the things that we do for it gives us a higher purpose. So I looked for it, only to find that it has always been there, waiting for me to humble myself before God.

Prayer is very powerful, it inspires, it protects, it moves us. The lack thereof, misguides us and weakens us.

Keep on praying for God hears them, and in many instances our human capacity fails us to understand the ways of the Divine, and times that we do not know what we ask for, but worry not for God is omniscient and I am assured that no matter how it will be, our prayers will always be answered.

So before doing anything else, let's pray first.

"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." Matthew 21:22

Mountain Pines Place

Last November 8-12, 2012, I had a retreat in Mountain Pines Place at Bagalangit, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

End of the World

Back in pre-school, I beheaded a ninja turtle while playing with it. Scared of the punishment, I broke the rule that all toys should be returned after but instead I smuggled it home and tried to fix it to no avail. An act of desperation I prayed so hard to God to fix it, but the next day I cried my heart out because it was still broken. I felt that God abandoned me and it was the end of the world.

In 5th grade, during our afternoon cleaning session, without any teachers around I made a javelin out of a floor mop and scored. I made a huge hole through the blackboard. I was reprimanded by the teachers and said that my parents were to see the principal. I prayed so hard that when I wake up the next morning I would go back in time and throw the floor mop in a different direction so to not damage the blackboard. But again, God didn't answer my prayer. I thought I was dead for sure and it was the end of the world.

In freshmen high, with a few classmates we were caught viewing an adult magazine. We were suspended in school and became the infamous "Porno Boys", tagged by bullies in the higher years. I prayed to God so hard that our bullies will die, the teachers will forget, and my parents will never know. For the duration of the school year, more and more bullies came to notice me for I always fought them back. Also, most of the faculty knew what we did because of the "Public Warning" that was sanctioned, and of course my parents were very disappointed. Then on, I skip a lot of classes for I could no longer afford the shame in school and it was clearly the end of the world!!!

In junior year, being a decorated basketball player with an above average skill set, it was assumed by many, especially by myself that the try-outs for the team would just be a formality. When the final line-up was posted my name was no where to be found. I demanded God for an explanation, I prayed for so long to win a championship in the Juniors League and perhaps opportunity to play college ball, but not making the team was preposterous! It was so over for me, the end of the world!

The next year, when I finally made the team in my senior year. I suffered an injury that slowed my game, I was benched and we never won a single game in the Juniors League. The dream of playing college ball was gone, and my prayer to God ever since I was a kid of playing pro ball was never going to happen. No matter how many times I was on my knees and the countless hours of training and hard work, nothing, it was the end of the world...

During the start of my college days, I moved to Manila, I was able to fit quite well, and was somewhat popular in campus. I was invited to parties, clubs, fraternities and the like. With these new experiences I needed more funding for those activities. I prayed to God that my parents would increase my allowance but on the contrary CAP went belly up, so my tuition became even a financial burden for our family. God once again, did not hear my request. And without such finances available, my social life was murdered and it was again the end of the world.

I joined a fraternity and just a year after I pledged I became the Chapter President. I prayed hard that my leadership may bring our fraternity into greater heights, and to be a strong force in the campus. Among our own members a few did not appreciate the reforms I advocated. I also made enemies from a rival fraternity, the encounters with them were simply violent in nature. The violence grew and rampant, but the bond of fraternal love among brods nurtured and also our defense tactics became organized. My prayer to God was for us to dominate and crush our enemies for I thought we were fighting for the good and our rival evil. For the school authorities our groups became a major security concern. Many of us were apprehended and sanctioned. I was held the most liable and in effect I was expelled in the University that I so long prayed to be a part of. My world was crushed, my future at peril, so this clearly is the end of the world.

So I prayed, but doubting God would again fail me. The gravity of the situation made me look back at the situations I had in my childhood and through my teenage years that I thought was the end, and at that point in time, it was, like my whole life depended on it.

As I remembered my past problems, I began laughing at myself, how a toy became a life-and-death situation when I was 6 years old, or a sport at 15, or the social scene at 18. Juvenile of me to consider those situations define my whole life.

Now, the only necessary thing I need to do is pray.

God never answered my prayers the way I wanted it to. I even already forgot how I got out of those problems in the past and how my life went on. Clearly, I got pass through them but not by the solutions that I have prayed for, it was God's. Hence, there will never be a moment or situation or problem can be the end of the world. For every time I consider such end, God has always made another world to accommodate me regardless of the gravity of my sins. Though it is my nature to sin again and destroy all the goodness of a new world, my faith in Him will always be.

So I remind myself, to keep on praying for they are heard all the time. Many instances my human capacity fails me to understand the ways of the Divine, but I assure you no matter what the outcomes are, my prayers have always been answered.

New Malls

Soon, gone are the days when you can only ask your buddies "Asa man ta bai? SM, Ayala?", though shopping establishments are many in the queen city, only the above mentioned are worthy of past time leisure.

Proposed Sports and Recreational Complex 1.1

Design Concept

Concept Statement

"Vintage Glamour"

Conceptual Analysis

Design  Objectives
1. To design a building that would instinctively look like a recreational center
2. To design a emotionally functional building that sets the mood for enjoyment
3. To design a retro themed building that incorporates advanced technology

Conceptual Write-Up

Vintage Glamour

Primarily inspired by classic Hollywood sophistication of the 50’s brought by perhaps a similar urge of early renaissance architects that looked in the past in order to advance its own decadence, in which considered by many as the most creative period in human history. Just like Brunelleschi who ignited a cultural phenomenon by studying classical Rome, in order to put a masterpiece to a then shameful dome-less Basilica in Florence.

This project began by extensive finger-pounding of putting words or phrases in a search box that hopefully relates to the admired decade that it may somewhat find a link to the concept to the design solutions. The thought of a strikingly painted, chrome-outlined structure, accented brightly of pink and blue shades with chequered flooring comes to mind a popular 1950’s automobile parked outside of a diner known for milkshakes. This image however, not a first-hand experience, rather was a portrayal brought in by popular media since the 50’s has been long over before our generations’ existence. The process of erecting an idea from something that was not seen or felt was harder than what was first expected. Changing to a simpler and google-friendly conceptual design was ideal.

Thankfully, the realization that the space requirements for this project were elaborated on theatres and a bowling center, so, here on, the focus for the conceptual design would be a themed movie house and bowling alley. Coincidentally, it was considered as the golden age of bowling from 1940 until 1960 due to its increase in popularity, the same time period as the initial idea. And so, the pursuit for inspiration continues.

A design objective would be that at first glance at the exterior of the building it would obviously be seen and easily tagged as a recreational hub, with colourful exhibitions, casting interesting shades throughout the day complimented with the landscape and a playful lighting arrangements at night adding to that picturesque skyline. Upon entry the emotional functionality should have taken its toll setting the mood for the pleasurable feeling of having a good time. Equipped with technologically advance amenities this would be able to turn a regular movie date with friends or family into a historical and memorable experience with the 50’s popularized “drive-in” inspired theatre at Cinema 1, and a luxurious red carpet-like experience at Gold Class Cinema 2 complete with lounge chairs for solitary viewing, for couples and up to a family of five. Bowling night could’ve been mistaken for a retro party but never mistaken for a dull and boring mandatory hang-out with co-workers. And dining should be time-travel at least until the last bite with choices from burger joints and steak houses to a soft piano playing, wedding proposal-worthy restaurants.

Recreation is an important aspect of human life, it may create new relationships or strengthen current ones, it may revitalize the mind and body or simply a pause from a stressful situation, and many believe it is therapeutic. As important as any other structure, designing a sports and recreation center that incline its occupants to feel enjoyment in engaging in the activities readily available or just by marvelling on aesthetic features and decorative elements of the environment may set an atmosphere of goodwill and appreciation for the past that as history always reminds, is a significant part of what the future holds.

Recruitment – a Chapter’s Life Blood
by OJ Lopez, Pi Chapter GC 2006-2007

I joined APO in February 2005 at the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas - Pi Chapter, when March came there were many brods and sis who graduated. I was dismayed that there are few chapter residents left, so we brain stormed on recruitment strategies. And the best time to implement our plans is on the university's org fair, Recruitment 101. Blessed with the University's Recognition status we were able to setup a booth. We made very simple brochures, photocopied it and hand it out to students. With the support of the Pi Alumni from a handful of residents we made 5 times our number in less than one year without compromising the quality of members. This was evident, when we bagged the “Best Chapter Award” on 2007 convention. Now, Recruitment 101 is an annual tradition of Pi Chapter.

5 Helpful Tips on Effective Recruitment:

1. Quality and quantity. The first batch of Recruitment 101 we had an astounding 24 new members! But there are over 300 students we persuade to sign up in the recruitment booth before coming up with the 24. Recruit as many as you can. Talk to as many students as possible and choose the best men and women.

2. If you want something done, do it yourself. Don't be intimidated by your alumni and fellow residents. They are there to help you. Have the initiative to recruit. Involve brods or sis that are goal oriented and wants improvement in membership. After all who wants a dead chapter? Be the hero! Act Now!

3. You can't recruit who you do not know. During events and service projects we can invite non-APO students to join. Organize events that may entice students to take part of the activity. Usually, we have exclusive events, concerts / billiard tournaments / poker nights / sport fests / DOTA tournaments etc. We can capitalize on some of these events and make it open to the student populace. These way potential recruits can feel what it is like to be an APO. Sometimes, you don't even need to recruit them, they'll just knock on our doors. The important things are that we are able to get NAMES, and CONTACT DETAILS of potential applicants. After each event we can contact all students who attended the event and invite them for an orientation.

4. Be humble. It has been APO's tradition that applicants must humble themselves. We should realize that the potential applicants don't know a thing about APO. Before demanding for them to bow down and call us Lords / Ladies we should inform them the principles, purpose and activities of APO. Proper orientation can decrease chances of applicants quitting so they would have an idea of what to expect.

5. 10th Jewel, be brave! Inform your classmates, and friends in school about APO. You can also meet students outside your circle of friends, outside your college and tell them about APO. During the 2005 recruitment 101, we went from classroom to classroom just to check out pretty college girls and have recruitment as an excuse. Saying to them, "We are Alpha Phi Omega and we are accepting new applicants, so if you’re interested just contact us". Then we leave them brochures. A couple of hours later, students are actually contacting us. We did not only have recruits, some brods got new girlfriends too.

Bonus # 6. Invest in recruitment materials. As I have said all we have before is a mere photocopied brochure that is worth less than a peso each given to students. It worked! Now we have all kinds of stuff from bookmarks, paper fans, calendars, etc. Be creative and experiment on other promotional media. Also remember to put your contact numbers in your chosen media, so it would be easier for students to contact you. But the best recruitment and promotional material is you. What you are and what you do is a mirror of what an APO is. So put yourself in your recruits’ shoes and ask, “Would you want yourself to be your brod / sis?” If yes, be proud you're an APO. And share APO to everyone!

Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!

APO Recruitment Plan
"Unconventional ways of recruiting new members"

Statement of the Problem
- According to our ID database out of 40,000+ members only around 2000 members are from batches 2005-present assuming older batches have already graduated.
- ONLY 5% of our registered members are of collegiate status.
- 60 years of APO Phils., Chapters = 300+, CHED institutions = 1,714*
- Sadly, APO is only present in 20%** of campuses nationwide.
*Tertiary institutions including satellite campuses, CHED Statistical Bulletin 2004-2005
**includes chartered and petitioning chapters
Why address the problem?
“There is strength in numbers…”
- Fraternities/sororities has been associated as something unconstructive. Colleges and universities, parents and fellow students are discouraging membership to such.
APO is reaping the benefits of the recruitment efforts in the past decades. Recruited many of its members that now are holding significant positions in the government and private sector.
- With the recent electoral process, many members triumph with the help of brothers and sisters. It took APO 60 years and recruited perhaps moreover 100,000 members to get the Vice President of the Republic.
- The future of APO lies in the efforts we make TODAY!
The Plan
Four Folds of Recruitment
The first 2 focuses on the students that are interested in joining fraternities/sororities (the target market)
- Converting interested students to join as members, and not waste time and effort with friends and family that are uninterested.
- Increase public information, most of APO’s activities tend to be exclusive to members only neglecting the opportunities for non-members recruitment especially in collegiate chapters.
- Creating a Unique Selling Point for APO
1. Open House Activities
Rationale:
- Activities wherein non-members (students) can participate. Feeling what’s it like to be an APO may create the need to join
- Only the Oblation Run gets regular media coverage, creating more bold activities that can attract media attention and not necessarily taking our pants off.
- From these open house activities we may take advantage of radio and online promotion.
- Association with the fraternity stereotype known for hazing, violence and vandalism may be lessen.
- Well rounded activities that caters to the interests of college students. Promoting friendship to all.
- Its time to go public!
Some activities that caters to the interests of most types of college students
The Volunteers
- Service projects open to all students
The Party People
- Parties
- Concerts

Scouts
-Open Camping
-Rover scouting as student org
The Intellectual
- Debate
- Leadership Forum
Chicks
- Women’s Month
- Women’s Rights
Chick Boys
- Roses giving
Varsity Player
- Open Tournaments: Basketball, APO Football Club, etc.
2. APO Recruitment Video Series
The cheapest way to reach a vast audience is through the internet.
Recruitment videos are widely used by small to large businesses, and government entities among others.
Information disseminated through videos, together with promotion and a systematic plan may boost recruitment.
1st Video: APO is Fun!
Message: APO is not the fraternity your mom warned you about.
Opening: A comedy that sparks interests in APO.
2nd Video: The APO Life, A Documentary
Interviews with collegiate and notable alumni members, school officials, parents, rival frats, APO friends, girlfriends, etc.
Sales Pitch: Address the inquiries and objections, answer controversial questions such as school policies against frats, hazing and frat violence
3rd Video: APO Service
Heroic plot. Showing APO service projects that made lives of people better. E.g. Ondoy, GK, etc.
Closing the Deal: Stirs the emotion of the viewer and creating the need to join
The last 2 focuses on the core of APO, the executors of this program… its members.
3. Chapter Boot Camps
Objectives:
Chapter workshops and consultations are regularly conducted and available.
Standard modules for chapter recruitment, finance, crisis management, new officers workshops, etc. Can be conducted per region/section.
Alumni members have a chance to volunteer and make a difference either to conduct a workshop or stand as chapter adviser (especially for revival and petitioning chapters).
4. APP Strong
So not to waste our recruitment efforts:
APP must be strictly implemented
Creation of the APP Helpdesk for chapter consultations and individual complaints
Certified APP Trainers are requested to volunteer as facilitators for Chapter Boot Camp on APP
APP Review Team for further development and improvement
Starting with a BANG!
“A Call to APO: The Orientation Concert”
Featuring bands like Urbandub and/or Franco
A presentation about APO in between bands.
Only those with school ID will be admitted. Registration and contact info
After the last song. There will be “A Call to APO”, an integrated baptismal rites for already willing applicants. On the day itself APO will have new pledges! The national council is helping chapters get pledges!
Is it FREE or not? It depends on BOD decision on the budget proposal.

THE TRUE SCORE

A break up after almost 6 years of dating. Heart was only broken the sad part is that I considered that my life was over without her.

I was saving to put a ring on her finger and make our relationship status on facebook real.

Shit happens.

I was down, but not out. Planned to take my revenge, not on her (because I loved her still). A revenge on womanhood. I studied the seduction process, women psychology, and other sciences, and I mastered the art.

So I fucked the whole world.

A heartless pussy scavenger playing the game with a score card eagerly wanting to fill up.

It took time to bite me back. When it finally did, I thought it was just karma.

But instead of punishing me, a girl came along that would change the course of the game.

I did my usual routine and lines about my commitment to non-commitment. It was fun.

But she was different from the 200 women I dated. The "checklist" I have entitled "I'll only have a girlfriend if..." went up in flames.

It's very fast jumping into a relationship considering both our resumes, but we agreed that it felt just right.

And here I am again, risking it all for the woman I love.

Ladies, forgive me...

(Ex-girlfriend), I'll always love you just like I promised...

(Girlfriend) Baby, you are my everything now, we might have been moving very fast, maybe because I can no longer wait for the rest of my life to start now that we found each other. It is only to you that I am truly naked, hiding nothing because you showed me that you also don't give a fuck about the past. It's you and me here on.

To the world. It was hell of a run, epic stories to tell, but maybe next time.

This is The Shagger signing out.
